Company and licensing
Who is Current Energy?
Current Energy is a solar and building-electrification contractor founded in 2017, based at 15823 Monte St, Suite 101, Sylmar, CA 91342. We design, install and maintain solar, battery storage, EV charging, lighting, HVAC, roofing, water heating and electrical systems for commercial, multifamily and residential property across Southern California. CSLB licence #1074466.
Are you licensed, bonded and insured?
Yes. California Contractors State License Board licence #1074466. Licence status, bond and workers’ compensation coverage are publicly verifiable free of charge at cslb.ca.gov.
What areas do you serve?
Southern California — Los Angeles County including the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys, plus Ventura, Orange and San Bernardino counties. Commercial solar development work extends further across the state. If you are unsure about your address, call and ask.
Which number should I call?
(888) 899-9484 for solar, storage, EV charging and any commercial or multifamily project. (818) 405-9062 for home services — roofing, HVAC, water heaters, panel upgrades and lighting. Or email info@currentenergy.net.
Cost and incentives
How much does solar cost?
Installed cost is driven by system size, mounting type, roof or ground conditions, electrical distance to the point of interconnection, and utility interconnection requirements — not by panel brand. We publish realistic ranges and the drivers behind them in our commercial solar cost guide, and model your specific site free of charge.
Is there still a federal solar tax credit?
For businesses, yes — the Section 48E credit, with a placed-in-service deadline of December 31, 2027 for projects that did not begin construction before July 5, 2026. For homeowners buying their own system, no — the Section 25D residential credit ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. See the full explanation.
Will solar raise my property taxes?
Under California Revenue & Taxation Code §73, a qualifying active solar energy system is excluded from new-construction reassessment. As currently written the exclusion applies to systems completed before January 1, 2027. See solar and property tax.
Do you offer financing?
We model cash purchase, equipment finance, lease, power purchase agreement and — for suitable commercial sites — Feed-in Tariff arrangements side by side, so the decision can be made on the numbers rather than on a preference of ours.
Design and technology
Do I need a battery?
Under NEM 3.0 you probably want one, because exported energy earns roughly four to eight cents per kWh while self-consumed energy offsets your full retail rate. Whether it pencils depends on when your load actually occurs, which is why we model from interval data. See battery storage.
How do you size a system?
From twelve months of interval consumption data and your actual rate schedule, including demand charges where they apply — combined with a shading model and a structural review. Not from roof area or annual kWh alone.
What happens during a power outage?
A grid-tied solar system without storage shuts down during an outage for utility worker safety. Only a system with battery storage and the correct switching provides backup, and then only for the circuits it was designed to carry.
How long do panels and batteries last?
Photovoltaic modules are typically warranted for 25 years on production, degrading slowly rather than failing outright. Inverters generally have shorter warranties and may be replaced once during the system’s life. Batteries are usually warranted around ten years on a throughput or retained-capacity basis. We register warranties and hold the documentation.
Process and timing
What does the free assessment involve?
We collect twelve months of utility data, your tariff, and roof and electrical information, then walk the site. You get a production model, a preliminary layout and a side-by-side financial comparison. No cost, no obligation, and no pressure to decide on the visit.
How long does a project take?
Residential systems are usually weeks from contract, with utility permission to operate the longest single wait. Commercial and multifamily projects run longer because engineering, plan check and utility interconnection each have queues. We give named milestones at design stage.
Do you handle permits and utility applications?
Yes, all of them — AHJ permitting, plan check responses, utility interconnection applications and inspection scheduling. This is where most delays live, so we keep it in-house and report status rather than going quiet.
What about my roof?
Assessed before design. If it has under roughly ten years left we will recommend replacing it first, and we can do that work — see roofing.
What happens after installation?
Inspection, utility permission to operate, commissioning and a monitoring handover, followed by ongoing production review, warranty administration and service.
