HVAC and heat pumps sized for real SoCal comfort — not guesswork

An oversized system costs more and delivers less comfort. We calculate the load, check the ductwork and specify for the house you actually have — then coordinate it with the solar and the electrical service.

Comfort is a design problem, not an equipment problem

Most HVAC disappointment traces back to sizing and duct design rather than to the equipment on the label. A high-efficiency system connected to leaky, undersized ductwork will underperform a modest system that was installed properly.

We calculate the load — square footage, orientation, insulation, glazing, infiltration and duct condition — and specify for it.

What we install

Heat pump systems

Heating and cooling from one electric system. Efficient in this climate and offsettable with solar.

Ducted split systems

Conventional central air and furnace replacement where a full electrification is not the right step yet.

Ductless mini-split

Room-by-room zoning for additions, converted garages, ADUs and homes without duct runs.

Electrification, in the right order

If you are considering solar and a heat pump, do the load work first. Replacing an inefficient system and sealing ducts reduces the electrical demand the array has to cover, so the array gets smaller and cheaper. Sizing solar to a house you are about to change is how people end up with a system that no longer matches the building.

Questions we get asked

Is a heat pump right for Southern California?

It is an unusually good fit. Heat pumps are most efficient in mild climates, and Southern California’s heating season is short and mild. One system provides both cooling and heating, it runs on electricity so solar can offset it, and it removes gas combustion from the house. The main considerations are electrical capacity and correct sizing.

Why does sizing matter so much?

An oversized system short-cycles: it cools the air quickly, satisfies the thermostat, shuts off before it has removed humidity, and then starts again. You get temperature swings, higher wear and higher bills. Bigger is not safer — it is a common and expensive mistake, and it is why we calculate the load rather than matching whatever was there before.

Will a heat pump need an electrical upgrade?

Sometimes, particularly in older homes with 100-amp service that are also adding solar, storage or an EV charger. We check panel and service capacity as part of the quote so it is not a surprise mid-installation. See panel upgrades.

Do you install smart thermostats?

Yes, as part of the system rather than as an accessory. A properly configured thermostat with a sensible schedule and setback strategy is one of the cheapest comfort and efficiency improvements available, and it also lets a heat pump pre-cool during solar production hours.
