Solar, storage and energy services in Orange County

Designed, permitted and installed by a Sylmar-based contractor that works in this utility territory every week — because Orange County does not follow the same rules as the county next door.

What we do in Orange County

Current Energy designs, installs and maintains solar, battery storage, EV charging, lighting, HVAC, roofing and electrical systems across Orange County. Our office is at 15823 Monte St, Suite 101 in Sylmar, so this is local work rather than a territory served from somewhere else.

Typical property here: Office and R&D campuses, light industrial and distribution, retail, apartment and condominium property, and single-family housing.

What is different about Orange County

Dense commercial and R&D property

Irvine, Tustin and Costa Mesa carry a large stock of office, research and light-industrial buildings with strong weekday daytime load — good solar candidates where the roof and structure allow.

Demand charges do the work

On Southern California Edison commercial tariffs, demand charges are frequently a bigger line than energy. Storage that discharges into the monthly peak is often the measure that makes the numbers work, not a larger array.

Coastal exposure

Salt-air corrosion affects mounting hardware and equipment enclosure selection along the coast. It is a specification decision, and it is one that gets skipped by installers working from a template.

Which utility serves Orange County, and why does it matter?

Most of Orange County is Southern California Edison territory, with the southern end falling under SDG&E and several cities served by their own municipal utilities. All CPUC-regulated territories are on the Net Billing Tariff. It matters because the utility determines what your exported energy is worth, what the interconnection process looks like and how long permission to operate takes. Two properties a few miles apart can have genuinely different economics for the same system.

Are Orange County properties on SCE or SDG&E, and does it change the numbers?

Most of the county is Southern California Edison, with San Diego Gas & Electric serving the southern edge. It changes the numbers because each utility sets what exported energy is worth, what interconnection involves and how long permission to operate takes. We confirm the serving utility from your bill before modelling.

How much of an Orange County commercial bill is demand charges rather than energy?

It varies by rate schedule and load shape, which is why we will not quote a figure without reading your bills. On office and R&D campuses and light-industrial property here the demand component is routinely the part worth attacking first, and that points at storage and controls as much as at generation.
