Solar, storage and energy services in the San Fernando Valley
Designed, permitted and installed by a Sylmar-based contractor that works in this utility territory every week — because San Fernando Valley does not follow the same rules as the county next door.
What we do in the San Fernando Valley
Current Energy designs, installs and maintains solar, battery storage, EV charging, lighting, HVAC, roofing and electrical systems across the San Fernando Valley. Our office is at 15823 Monte St, Suite 101 in Sylmar, so this is local work rather than a territory served from somewhere else.
Typical property here: Single-family homes, garden-style and mid-rise apartment buildings, light industrial along the Van Nuys and Pacoima corridors, retail centres and professional office.
What is different about San Fernando Valley
Housing stock and electrical service
A great deal of Valley housing was built in the post-war decades with 100-amp service and panels that have no spare capacity. Adding solar, a battery, an EV charger or a heat pump frequently runs into that before it runs into anything else, which is why we run a load calculation before designing rather than discovering it on installation day.
Heat, and what it does to production
Valley summers are genuinely hot, and photovoltaic modules lose efficiency as cell temperature rises. Mounting height, airflow beneath the array and module selection all matter more here than they do near the coast. So does air conditioning load — which is usually the single largest reason a Valley property benefits from storage.
Two utilities, two processes
Being headquartered in Sylmar means we deal with LADWP and SCE interconnection routinely. They differ in paperwork, timelines and — importantly — in what your exported energy is worth. An answer that is correct for a Burbank-adjacent SCE customer can be wrong for a neighbour two streets away on LADWP.

Questions we get asked
Do you serve San Fernando Valley?
Yes. Which utility serves San Fernando Valley, and why does it matter?
Most of the Valley inside Los Angeles city limits is served by LADWP, which runs its own net-metering and interconnection program separate from the CPUC’s Net Billing Tariff. Pockets outside city limits fall under Southern California Edison and NEM 3.0. It matters because the utility determines what your exported energy is worth, what the interconnection process looks like and how long permission to operate takes. Two properties a few miles apart can have genuinely different economics for the same system.
Will a San Fernando Valley home need a panel upgrade before solar or an EV charger?
Often, yes. A great deal of Valley housing was built in the post-war decades with 100-amp service and panels with no spare capacity, so solar, a battery, an EV charger or a heat pump runs into the service before it runs into anything else. We run a load calculation during the assessment rather than discovering it on installation day. See electrical panel upgrades.
Does Valley heat reduce how much power a solar array produces?
It does. Photovoltaic modules lose efficiency as cell temperature rises, and Valley summers are genuinely hot, so mounting height, airflow beneath the array and module selection matter more here than near the coast. Air-conditioning load is also the usual reason a Valley property benefits from storage.
