Solar, storage and energy services in the Santa Clarita Valley
Designed, permitted and installed by a Sylmar-based contractor that works in this utility territory every week — because Santa Clarita does not follow the same rules as the county next door.
What we do in the Santa Clarita Valley
Current Energy designs, installs and maintains solar, battery storage, EV charging, lighting, HVAC, roofing and electrical systems across the Santa Clarita Valley. Our office is at 15823 Monte St, Suite 101 in Sylmar, so this is local work rather than a territory served from somewhere else.
Typical property here: Master-planned single-family housing, apartment communities and HOAs, business parks and light industrial along the I-5 and SR-14 corridors.
What is different about Santa Clarita
NEM 3.0 territory, so storage carries the case
Because Santa Clarita is SCE, exported energy earns roughly four to eight cents per kWh while self-consumed energy offsets the full retail rate. On a valley climate with heavy evening air-conditioning load, that asymmetry is exactly what battery storage exists to solve.
Fire-threat districts and resiliency
Parts of the Santa Clarita Valley sit in or near high fire-threat areas and have experienced public safety power shutoffs. Where a property qualifies, the equity resiliency tier of California’s SGIP program offers materially higher storage incentives than the general market tier — worth checking before assuming standard rates.
Newer stock, better roofs
Much of Valencia and Stevenson Ranch is newer construction with roofs in good condition and adequate electrical service, which usually means a cleaner, faster project than the older housing further south.

Which utility serves Santa Clarita, and why does it matter?
Santa Clarita is served by Southern California Edison, so new solar customers here are on the CPUC’s Net Billing Tariff — NEM 3.0 — with exported energy credited at avoided-cost values rather than retail. It matters because the utility determines what your exported energy is worth, what the interconnection process looks like and how long permission to operate takes. Two properties a few miles apart can have genuinely different economics for the same system.
Does solar still pay in Santa Clarita under NEM 3.0?
Santa Clarita is Southern California Edison territory, so new solar falls under the Net Billing Tariff. Exported power is worth substantially less than retail, which moves the case from exporting to self-consumption — and that is what makes storage carry the economics here rather than being optional. The full mechanics are in NEM 3.0 explained.
Will a battery keep a Santa Clarita property running during a public safety power shutoff?
That is a design decision, not an automatic feature. Parts of the Santa Clarita Valley sit in fire-threat districts where PSPS events are a real consideration, so we size and configure backup around the circuits that actually matter to you rather than assuming whole-property backup. Some sites also qualify for the SGIP resiliency budget.
